Since our presenters mentioned this at the excellent Tuesday Chapter meeting earlier this week, I am posting the link to Chris Anderson's TED talk on how web video powers global innovation.

Anderson has a long career as a journalist and publisher and is now the curator of the TED organization.  TED, which started out as the Technology, Entertainment, Design conference in 1984, is a non-profit organization devoted to, as its motto puts it, Ideas Worth Spreading.

This video is a great prelude to ASTDps's Innovation Initiative coming this spring.  It will get you to thinking about the ways that we can help our area organizations become more creative and innovative and make the Puget Sound region the innovation leader in the world.

Presenters: Michael Baker and Stacy Lindenberg, First Citizen's Bank

Too often, vendor selection decisions are made in a vacuum. Without consulting others in your organization, utilizing research, and tying the decision to organizational objectives, you risk having the project rejected, a costly, drawn out implementation, or under-utilization of the system. This session addresses the entire selection process, and shares best practices along the way. In addition, attendees will receive templates to use in their own organizations to support the process. Attendees can plan ahead and avoid pitfalls associated with vendor selection. They will learn the step-by-step process of vendor selection, creating buy-in, presenting to executive level stakeholders, implementation, and continuous marketing.  Register here.

I wanted to take a moment and personally invite all ASTD members from your local chapter to our 10th annual Learning Analytics Symposium. It is March 5-7 in New Orleans. The event will feature workshops, breakouts and general sessions from world-class organizations including Microsoft, NetApp, Boeing, BlueShield, Verizon, P&G, Bersin & Associates, the ROI Institute and many others. The theme is Executive Reporting and will focus attention on how learning leaders report performance to business executives.

I would like to offer your local ASTD members a 50% discount pass to the event. If any local chapter member goes to http://www.knowledgeadvisors.com/events/symposium/ and enters code KAVS50Y they will receive half off the $1,500 registration fee.

We would value your membership participating in the event and feel it is a good use of their time to do so.

If your members do consider attending we suggest making arrangements soon as the hotel (which you can also book from our site) has a great rate that will soon be filled.

Had a great opportunity to chat with Jane McGonigal at a learning conference today. See her TED speech and read her book on Reality is Broken: Why Games Make Us Better and How They Can Change the World.
    www.ted.com
Games like World of Warcraft give players the means to save worlds, and incentive to learn the habits of heroes. What if we could harness this gamer power to solve real-world problems? Jane McGonigal says we can, and explains how.
