Erin Clarke, President*

Erin Clarke works for Sur La Table as a Program Manager in Talent Management. Her specialty is designing learning programs for fast-paced retail environments. She previously worked for McLendon Hardware and The Home Depot. Erin has been a member of ATDps since 2011. Wanting get more connected with the local network of talent and to give back, she volunteered as Registration Coordinator for five years. Her love of the ATDps community grew and she continued on to volunteer as Director of Research in 2016, President Elect in 2017 and now President in 2018.

Erin grew up in a small town outside of Portland, Oregon and initially came to Seattle to attend college at Seattle Pacific University. Upon completing her undergrad, she continued on to obtain her Masters in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. In 2014, she earned her CPLP credential through ATD. Erin lives in Kent with her husband and two young daughters. She enjoys paleo cooking and baking, coffee (lots of coffee!) and running.

Marie Tjernlund, President Elect*

Marie Tjernlund is a Sr Leadership Consultant and Executive Coach at NobleEdge Consulting. She also serves as the Manager, Workplace Training and Performance at TrueBlue. Marie has more than twenty years of experience working with executives and teams as a coach, trainer, facilitator and consultant, specializing in leadership development, talent management, communications and personal transformation. An active member of ATD for many years, she serves as the leader for the ATDps South Sound Chapter meeting and has facilitated multiple sessions at International ATD conferences. She has an MA in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University and a BFA in Theatre from Southern Oregon University. Marie and her husband, Dr. Christopher Gilbert, live in Gig Harbor and enjoy acting together, gourmet cooking, international travel and sailing in the waters of British Columbia.

Janet Williams Hepler, Past President*

Janet’s life and career are marked by creative exploration.  She started working in software companies when software was magical. Janet worked as a support professional, a writer, editor, and leader. Craving a deeper understanding about what drives leaders and teams, Janet completed her M.A. in Industrial Organizational Psychology at SPU. There, she was introduced to coaching and its power to effect change. As professional coach, she works with other to find creative ways to navigate transitions in career and in their leadership.  

Stephanie Tham, Director of Finance*

Samantha Knorr - Director of Programs

Samantha Knorr currently works as a technical recruiter at Amazon’s headquarters - where she plans and executes international hiring events to bring the world’s best engineers to Seattle. She holds a BA in Psychology and an MS in Counseling Psychology from Seattle Pacific University.

Samantha lives in Seattle and spends her free time taking photographs, remodeling her home, collecting plants, and enjoying the Seattle outdoors.

Brent Kobayashi - Director of Membership

Brent Kobayashi is a talent management, learning and human resources professional with over twenty years of experience working with organizations in various industries, including finance, hospitality,healthcare and associations. Brent's passion for service was cultivated during his time in the luxury hotel industry and he continues to apply the same principles to his work, volunteer and personal life. Working for the

DaVita Kidney Care business office in Tacoma, WA, Brent leads the training and talent development team as they design, develop and delivery world class learning experiences for their teammates across the country.

Brent and his wife along with their two teenage children live in Gig Harbor and enjoy spending time boating, kayaking and paddle boarding in Puget Sound.

Andrew Herkert, Director of Marketing & Communications

Andrew has a background in Leadership, Sales, and Marketing. He studied in Minneapolis, MN where he co-founded TruScribe while a graduate student at the University of St. Thomas in 2011. Since that time TruScribe has experienced an exciting 1,800% growth phase and served clients worldwide throughout the Fortune 500 and beyond. In 2016 TruScribe launched Squigl, a fast-growing content creation app providing authoring capabilities for universities and corporate learning organizations. Andrew's work with TruScribe has been profiled by Inc. Magazine, Quartz, Forbes, the Wall Street Journal, and many more. Andrew is an authority on content strategy and entrepreneurial leadership and has served on a number of advisory boards. He has been an ATD member since 2013.

Andrew is an avid skier, outdoors enthusiast, and music aficionado. He is married and currently resides with his wife on Fox Island in the South Sound with their 1-year-old son.

Sarah Reynolds, Director of Research

Sarah Nell Reynolds, M.A. is a leader of learning with expertise in adult learning and instructional design, specifically in the area of technical training. She is skilled at identifying opportunities to connect and collaborate with professionals to create innovative learning.

Hailing from the Midwest, she holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois (Math/Secondary Education) and a Master’s degree from Northeastern Illinois University (Human Resource Development). Being a technology trainer and lover of math, the Director of Research position is a great fit!

Renin Oliver, Director of Conference & Partnerships

Renin is currently a Registered Dietitian working with patients on dialysis for kidney failure. Falling in love with food as an undergraduate eventually led to a Masters degree in Adult Education Development and Training over the span of 15 years and 7 continents. She enjoys working with people in a variety of settings, may it be talking about complex nutrition challenges or merely supporting them to succeed. Helping others develop and have the tools they need to maximize their potential motivates her to continue to learn and grow.


Ann Baus, Office Coordinator

Ann Baus provides a variety of office administration and member service functions to our Association and its leadership team.  She is also a friend to Board members and the goes-the-extra-mile person who makes many ATD events the successes they are. 

She is the Chapter bookkeeper and the front line contact for members, potential members and the public seeking information about our Chapter events and services.  She contractually provides these services through her own firm, KDBusinessServices.

Ann’s passion is Association Management – “I love working with small to medium sized membership-based associations. Nearly 15 years in this field have provided me with a unique perspective in helping associations and their boards.”  She has been a key player of ATD Puget Sound since 2002.
