    You've tried every trick in the book to engage your learners. Everything from simple drag and drop to highly animated avatars but you may be missing out on one of the best and simplest forms of engagement, conversation. Learn how to integrate interactive voice tools and audio based instructions to actively engage the learner in a mobile application or a blended learning solution. Our presenter will be Nancy Munro, CEO of KnowledgeShift and a seasoned developer of online and mobile learning applications.

    During her presentation, Nancy will seek out a volunteer who will demonstrate some of these interactive voice tools in real time. Rapid Intake's development platforms can easily integrate the voice/audio tools that she will be demonstrating. Nancy has been a presenter for regional ASTD chapters, eLearning Guild's mLearning Conference and a repeat presenter for the Chicago eLearning Showcase.

    Seeing and Exploring Coaching in Action: The Puget Sound Coaches Association Fish Bowl Adventure

     

    Bring your hip boots and wade right into this collaborative coaching experience.  The PSCA meeting on March 6th at REI Seattle, 5:00 p.m.- 8:30 p.m. will be a deep dive into a real-time exploration of ICF professional coaching.  Your PSCA program committee has come up with a program that will reel you in and add to your tackle box of resources and coaching skills.

    We have carefully selected four coaching scenarios that will challenge all levels of coaching experience: 

    1.  Creating awareness with a micromanaging leader who wants to empower a team but continues to wonder why they are not responding.

    2.  Direct communication with a client who may need therapy rather than coaching.

    3.  Accountability with a client who "talks a good game" but rarely follows through.

    4.  Being fully present with an angry, blaming client who has just been laid-off from their job.

     

    Local coaches with current ICF credentials are stepping forward to coach peer clients in each of these four scenarios.  They are courageous and bold to come forward to coach for all to witness and learn from together.  After each scenario we will deepen our collective learning through a variety of reflection processes, including insights from a powerful panel of experienced coaches who are intimately familiar with the ICF Core Competencies; small group dialogue; and debrief with the full group.

     

    Those on the outside of the Fish Bowl will have the opportunity to support the coaching container and to learn from observation and discussion. The activities after each session are intended to evoke thoughtful reflection, insight, curiosity and inquiry into the many styles of effective coaching and the variety of ways to be of service to the client within the coaching paradigm.

     

    Come get your feet wet in this evening of experiential learning!

     

    Request for coaches and clients:  Break out from the safety of a school of fish: volunteer to be a client in our Fish Bowl Adventure. Individuals who volunteer to be clients will be asked to embody the scenario without being canned or scripted.  The program committee will assign your situation and coach on the night of the meeting so there's little pressure to “act” or prepare.  Our intent is that these impromptu, real-time scenarios come alive from the essence of the person who is the client.

Share with us your coaching background and training, your area of coaching specialty and which ICF credential you currently hold.     Here is a link to a good article from the Sunday New York Times that weighs the pros and cons of government-funded customized training.  The reality, as I see it, is that as long as unemployment remains high, and the skills gap looms, such training programs are essential.  The question is how can we do a better job as a society to help people acquire the skills they need to earn good wages for their family?

    This presentation will introduce a framework for understanding creative thinking called FourSight, which will enable attendees to focus their creative problem-solving to resolve complex situations, encourage innovative thinking, and work with their clients to more effectively create targeted, well-considered solutions. Participants will come to understand their unique patterns of thinking and learn to steer themselves more deliberately towards their goals. This field-tested framework helps to demystify the process of creativity and innovation so that any team can achieve performance breakthroughs.

    Lean Methods and Human Performance
    Lean techniques can be applied for profound improvements in product development, service delivery, and modern manufacturing. Often associated with Six Sigma, Lean is actually focused more on flow than quality, but quality improvement is a common side effect - because of the focus also on waste. Lean methods originate with the work of Henry Ford, Edward Deming, and the Toyota Production System... But there have been many implementations in companies such as Boeing, General Electric, Dell Computer and others. Lean methods are also being brought to bear on near-term challenges in Health Care and Insurance. Far from being a fad, Lean techniques have been around for decades now and have led to many quick, sustained breakthroughs.

    This presentation will provide an overview and some specific techniques applicable across industry. Related techniques will also be addressed... such as the Theory of Constraints and Critical Chain Project Management. It will relate Systems Thinking methods, as time delays and human mechanisms are key also to Lean Thinking. Lean methods can be a powerful addition to your HPT toolset.

    Bio
    Jeff Smith is a Senior Consultant and Team Performance Coach for Net Objectives. Jeff has been in High technology for over 30 years and specializes in driving internal productivity breakthroughs. He is the current chair for the Seattle and Eastside Area Software Process Improvement Network(SPIN), President of the Seattle ISPI Chapter(International Society for Performance Improvement), and has also served on the board of the Austin SPIN, Agile Austin, and the Austin AITP Chapter (Association of IT Professionals) Chapter. Jeff's experience includes process and development work with organizations large and small, including Dell, IBM, BearingPoint, Boeing, Trilogy, Lexis Nexis, as well as some smaller technology startups and various confidential clients. He holds a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University, with additional certifications in Lean, Six Sigma, Software Process, ITIL, and software test.
