Meet people from private and public sectors in training, coaching, performance improvement, human resources, leadership development, and organizational development with an emphasis on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in our work. This interest group's overall goal is to exchange ideas, share best practices and strategies, and resources to help shift the culture of Talent Development through DEI lenses and build a culture that weaves DEI into the fabric of our work. Feel free to invite others who may benefit from this group and are committed to building an inclusive, varied workplace welcoming to people of all backgrounds.

Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) also known as “Affinity Groups” in certain circles first began with Xerox in the 1960s. Employees formed a group to address race-based issues and concerns in their workplace. This led to what we refer to as ERGs. ERGs provide several benefits for organizations. In a 2022 article in the Association for Talent Development (ATD), Ilit Raz identified some of these benefits. These benefits are as follows:

    •  Attract top talent
    •  Expand company’s network
    •  Encourages professional development
    •  Keeps employees engaged
    •  Fosters inclusion

    Mentorship Program

Where do you want to be professionally in the next year? To find yourself with new skills, competencies, a new job, or whatever goals you have - let the ATD Puget Sound (ATDps)Mentorship Program support you.

This year, the mentorship will be a team experience, where one mentor is partnered with 2-3 mentees who all share similar goals centered around a competency from the ATD Capability Model. These group conversations will enhance engagement, multiple perspectives, networking, and community learning. They will help develop both mentor and peer mentoring relationships, which are long-lasting supportive relationships.

The six-month program kicks off in May, so to be considered, please complete the application listed below and the ATD Capability Self-Assessment by end of day Friday, April 26Use the links in your confirmation email to express your interest in being a mentee, mentor or both.

Mentors will have a kick-off session on May 13 and mentees on May 14. The program ends in November. We encourage you to sign up as a mentor, mentee, or both!

During the Mentorship Program, you will have access to a program guide with resources and targeted discussion points, a dedicated Slack channel, and opportunities to attend networking gatherings with the mentorship community.

Great news: the program is FREE for ATD Puget Sound members. Not a member? Join today. Or, if you are not a member, this program is $59 for each six-month cohort. Note, if you haven’t joined, you will not be sent a payment link until you’re paired with your mentor/mentee.

For more information, visit our Mentorship Program Page.

By now we have all heard the team silver tsunami but what does this mean as a large part of the workforce choose to continue to work in an environment that is seemingly geared toward newer generations. Organizations must find ways to attract the next generations of workforce while leveraging and acknowledging the historical knowledge that more tenured employees used to build the foundations of the company.

DEI is a journey not a destination. As you may be aware or heard, demographics are changing. In 2019, Pew Research reported on how “Americans have mixed views about how the country might change when blacks, Hispanics, Asians and other minorities make up a majority of the population. While more say this change will be good for the country than say it will be bad, the predominant view is that it will be neither.” How will this shift impact the ability to further develop and grow internal talent pools or attract more diverse candidates into your organizations?
