President's Message | ||||||
In my life outside of work and ATD, I am a proud mama to two sweet little girls. My youngest is two years old and recently she started incessantly asking “Why?”
Ahhh! This phase that every toddler goes through is equally maddening and hilarious. Sometimes I want to scream “just because!” Even though I find answering the incessant “why” of my two year-old somewhat exasperating, it reminds me that asking the “why” question is a good practice. Asking questions provides a lot of clarity and perspective. It’s a simple but powerful way to understand. As a board, we too have been taking the time to ask some hard questions.
We have recently updated our mission and vision statement to better reflect the answers to our “why”. ATDps’ vision is to be an essential resource for talent development in the workplace learning and performance field in the Puget Sound area. And our mission is to engage with professionals and organizations in the region to promote excellence in talent development. Together, we create a world that works better. I can’t say we always have all the answers, but the exercise of asking the questions is providing clarity and understanding and helping us to reach our goals. Would you consider getting involved and helping us find answers to our “why” questions? We have lots of volunteer opportunities and would love to have you join us. How will you engage, learn, develop and grow with us in 2018? Erin Clarke President |
