President's Message | ||||||
The 2017 ATD State of the Industry report shows that organizations have increased investments in formal learning and development activities per employee. This is in terms of both time and money. I was not surprised at this news! In fact, this is the fourth year in a row that investments in employee learning have exceeded the average industry growth rate. Additionally, 65% of organizations reported on-the-job learning as a strong emphasis for the year. How organizations develop talent and train their employees may look different as trends and technologies change, but the bottom line is– talent development is not going away. Businesses are continuing to invest in people. So, when I am asked, “Why join ATD Puget Sound?” My answer is – “Why not?!?” ATDps is a vibrant member network of talented professionals that share a share a common desire to learn, develop themselves, connect with other practitioners, and give back to the community. Whether you need some inspiration and motivation in your work, need to refine your skills or are seeking an opportunity to give back, ATDps has extensive opportunities to stay on top of new developments in the industry and to engage with other professionals in talent development. Your ATDps membership includes:

Chapter Meeting | ||||||
ATDps Seattle Chapter Meeting - Workplace Stories: Designing Engagement into Your Training Programs April 17, 2018 | 7:30 - 9:30 AM | Mercer Island Community and Event Center We've all sat through sessions intended to convince us that we need to use stories in our learning programs. They try to teach us how to develop a story, wrap training in a story, or how to tell the story effectively. Stories are effective in learning because our brains are designed to receive stories. But what if your entire learning program was a story instead of just learning content with some stories sprinkled in? Story has the power to move people and even change the world right from where you are at work. Learn specific techniques for an engagement design process using elements of story and how it differs from simply adding stories to your training. This chapter meeting will focus on the Instructional Design and Training Delivery segments of ATD's overall competency model. FACILITATOR Katie Stroud has been designing instruction for over 13 years, usually in the high-tech industry. Frustrated with the dullness and ineffectiveness of training as both a developer and a participant, she felt there had to be a better way. In her observations she noticed two things: first, that people were either a catalyst or a barrier to success, and second, that no one could be successful on their own. Then she realized that story, designed well, had the power to change all that… Katie founded Incremental Success in 2012 to help her clients design a story of success within their organizations. Follow Katie at IncrementalSuccess.com to watch these stories unfold. Agenda:
