The Facets of Diversity: Frame It Before We Fix It

In our current political climate and race relations, Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) is a sensitive topic. Too often, several relevant concepts are not addressed. Attend this session to gain valuable insights to take you into a higher level of understanding when you get into facets such as implicit association, microaggressions, unconscious bias, and cultural dexterity. You may be missing the benefits to your organization internally and externally because you don’t understand the differences among these terms.

We will also navigate through steps to engage in crucial D&I conversations to help you promote an inclusive culture. This session will include engaging discussions and activities to create a valuable learning experience with takeaways for you to put into practice.

     Attendees will be able to:

    • Define relevant terms in the diversity landscape.
    • Introduce common missteps within diversity and inclusion practices.
    • Identify strategies to promote an inclusive culture.
    • Discuss best practices in framing your D&I work.

If neither ADDIE, SAM, nor Agile seem like they fit what you do, let’s talk LCD. The Learning Cluster Design (LCD) model guides L&D on how to surround learners with meaningful learning assets for a given performance gap. It is both a philosophy (way of thinking) with four principles, and a process (a way of doing) described byfive Actions.

This working session will focus primarily on upgrading your existing learning materials by introducing the core concepts of the Learning Cluster Model, then focusing on the nine elements of modern learning to improve current programs quickly and effectively. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own materials for direct and immediate application of the session content.

There are many tools for building eLearning, but our classic interactions can seem a bit stale to the modern learner in the era of YouTube and Tik Tok. In this hands-on workshop, you will build an eLearning course that prompts, challenges and supports the learner through a conversational chatbot, using free software and the planning tools provided in the workshop.

In this session, you will learn:

    • How the human brain responds to a chatbot
    • How to plan an educational conversation with a bot
    • How to test and improve the logical flow of the chatbot
    • How to enhance chatbot replies with existing assets
    • How to integrate your course into an LMS to track user behavior, completion, and success rates

Throughout the online workshop, you will follow a step-by-step process to build a functioning course using the content and assets provided, using the files and workflow provided. The files are yours to keep after the workshop, so you’ll be able to use it as a template for future development on any sort of subject.

Special bonus: Included with your workshop is a copy of AI in Talent Development: Capitalize on the AI Revolution to Transform the Way You Work, Learn, and Live, by ATD author and speaker, Margie Meacham

    About the Presenter:

Author and Learning Consultant Margie Meacham first became interested in helping people learn when she was a little girl struggling with learning to learn how to read. While she didn’t discover it until much later, Margie is dyslexic and was finding it hard to keep up with her classmates. Eventually, she figured out how her mind worked and graduated high school as her class valedictorian and summa cum laude from her Bachelor and Master’s level programs. Today, she teaches learning professionals how to apply the latest discoveries from the converging fields of neuroscience and artificial intelligence. Margie is the author of AI in Talent Development: Capitalize on the AI Revolution to Transform the Way You Work, Learn, and Live, Brain Matters: How to help anyone learn anything using neuroscience and The Brain Matters Coloring Book.

Margie is the Chief Freedom Officer of Learningtogo and a recognized leader in the application of neuroscience and artificial intelligence to enhance learning and performance. She is a recipient of the 100 Most Innovative in Learning award and a frequent keynote speaker at industry conferences. She teaches the ATD online course, Essentials of Brain-Based Learning and is a founding member of The Brain Ladies, a consortium of leading experts in applied cognitive science. Her neuroscience and AI blog was recently recognized as a Top Blog by Feedback. You can connect with her on LinkedIn and Twitter or get in touch via email.

Learning can’t always happen in 15 minutes, 30, or even 60. Often times, learners need repeated attempts at a lesson in order to fully absorb the meaning and leave with the expected outcomes, particularly when learning interpersonal skills. What design can yield a safe environment for learners to fail constructively? Simulations.

Simulations offer time and space for learners to try multiple strategies in achieving the learning goal in a safe environment: practice reps for the real world. Join Bryan Guo as he reviews his research into simulations and guides attendees in best practices they can use to create compelling simulations of their own.

    About the Presenter:

Bryan Yu Guo is a Senior Learning & Development Specialist at Amazon. He leads a global team to design blended learning solutions of high-impact business case studies and immersive technical learning experiences that develop Amazon senior leaders' ability to lead cross-functional teams at large scale. Bryan holds a Ph.D. in Learning Sciences from Northwestern University, where he conducted numerous experiments studying how to design effective simulations to help people learn complex concepts. He published and spoke at a wide range of international presses and conferences, including Springer, Computer Supported Collaborative Learning (books and journals), AERA, AECT, Jean Piaget Society (Educational Psychology & Technology conferences), ACM SIG CHI, IEEE ICDM, and ALife (Human-Computer Interaction / Data Mining / Computer Science conferences).
